Domain Kiting Is Out Of Control Says Parsons

Posted on June 7, 2007 in the Off Their Head category

If anyone is in a position to know about how much domain kiting goes on, it’s Godaddy CEO, Bob Parons.

Apparently more than 55 MILLION domain names have been registered so far in 2007… and of those… less than 10 percent have actually been kept.

Which means about 50 million domains were registered for just under 5 days (which is the grace period in which the domain owner can get a refund on the domain). But why would anyone want to do this?

It’s because the owner monitors the amount of “type in traffic” the domain gets. If the domain gets a lot of visitors that type in the website address, the domain owner can make money from parking ads on the page. And no surprises for who provides those ads: it’s the least ethical company on the internet…

GOOGLE

Geez I can’t wait for Google to go bust. I hate that monopolistic, manipulative, monolith. Sergey and Larry did the world no favor by bringing Google into our lives.

But according to Parsons, no-one can expect ICANN to do anything about the kiting problem because there has not been enough complaints about it.

Personally I hate domain kiting because it ties up a lot of domain names that I would otherwise register and use for a legitimate website. Thus adding value to the internet.

Oh well, thanks anyway Bob! Hopefully you’ll change things eventually!
